Fourfold Knot of Interlaced Rings

by Skye Studio

Four large double-line loops, one at each compass point, overlap one another like links in a chain, each passing over its neighbour and then under the next. At the heart, a circle is divided into four equal quadrants by a cross of thin channels. Inside each quadrant, nested arcs and squared corners wind toward a solid black quarter-circle wedge, like a tiny labyrinth, while a small black dot marks the point where the quadrants meet.

The artwork is drawn entirely in clean black outlines on white, with just four dark accents at the centre. That restraint lets the interlacing do the talking: the loops feel continuous, balanced and quietly rhythmic, like a single thread that never begins or ends. The mix of curves and right angles gives it a pleasing tension between organic flow and architectural order.

Fourfold knots are often read as symbols of balance and wholeness, connected to the four seasons, directions or elements, though here the effect is more graphic than traditional. The circular, precisely arranged layout also suggests crop-circle-inspired patterns seen from above. It could appeal to those who enjoy knotwork, sacred geometry, mandalas and crisp monochrome line work.
