At 2962 metres above sea level, the Zugspitze is the highest peak in the Wetterstein mountain range and Germany's highest mountain. The Zugspitze massif lies to the south-west of Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
The lowest point of the ski area is at the valley station of the Brunntal lift at around 2000 metres, the highest point at the Schneefernerkopf lift at 2720 metres.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen consists of two towns that were united in 1935. Garmisch-Partenkirchen is one of the most famous Alpine resorts in Germany and is picturesquely situated at the foot of the Zugspitze, the highest mountain in the country. The traditional spa and winter sports resort combines Bavarian cosiness, impressive nature and a wide range of leisure activities. The resort is surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery.
From Garmisch, you can easily reach the Zugspitze using the cable cars operated by Bayerische Zugspitzbahn Bergbahn AG. We recommend a "round trip" with the Zugspitze cable car, the cog railway and the glacier railway. During the journey, you will always have an impressive view of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
