Tips for use

About ‘Gateway of Light in Wadi Rum’ by Roy Mosterd

In the Wadi Rum desert in Jordan, a natural rock arch forms an impressive opening in the landscape. As the sun shines directly through the arch, the sunbeams break through the rock in a star-like pattern. Beneath the arch, a hiker stands silhouetted against the bright light, clearly revealing the scale of the rock formation and the vastness of the desert.
The warm colours of the sandstone give this landscape its distinctive character. In Wadi Rum, wind and time have carved out these extraordinary shapes over millions of years. Rock arches such as this are iconic features of the area and lend the landscape an almost surreal character.
During a trek through the desert, the light fell through the opening in the rock at precisely the right moment. The silhouette of the hiker and the star-shaped sun make this image a moment where light, form and landscape converge.
The work exudes adventure and space. Thanks to the warm earth tones and the graphic form of the rock arch, this photograph fits well in an interior where nature, travel and open landscapes take centre stage.

Whereas it used to be all about playing football in the park or tag in the school playground, I now prefer to spend as much time as possible in nature. In the mountains, along the coast or somewhere far away where the landscape…
