This image shows a close-up of gears, originally captured with a digital camera. The photograph was then manipulated into an oil painting using digital techniques.
First, the image was optimised in a photo editing programme: contrast and colours were enhanced to emphasise metal structure and wear. Next, a digital oil painting filter was applied to mimic brush strokes and canvas texture.
Digital brushes were used to highlight details and add imperfections, making the whole thing look like it was hand-painted. The result is an industrial portrait with an artisanal feel - a combination of technique and art.
