Timing was important when taking this photo. You don't get an extensive opportunity to determine the best composition, on a boat on the Zwarte Water ("Black Water") in Zwolle, The Netherlands, during an outing with friends where photographing is not the main objective.
Fortunately, that composition turned out quite well despite this. An almost Mondrian-like tessellation in which the two Canada geese each have their own compartment.
What I also like about this sculpture is the wealth of materials in this piece of industrial heritage. Concrete, brick, plastic, wood, steel. All in greater or lesser decline. In which the geese' feathers form a nice counterpoint, or am I making it too philosophic now?
Either way, the scene reflects beautifully in the Black Water, which on closer inspection is not black at all.
My work can be found in the border regions of photography, painting and computer visuals. With my company 3Develop I do work in commission but I use the same techniques, skills and software to make free work.
