The green iguana is one of Costa Rica’s most iconic reptiles. With its long body, spiny crest, and vivid colors ranging from bright green to shades of orange, it makes a striking impression. Often spotted high in the trees or basking in the sun on a branch, the iguana spends much of its day absorbing warmth. Despite its prehistoric appearance, it is a peaceful herbivore, feeding mainly on leaves, flowers, and fruits.
This photo collection captures the iguana’s many facets: close-ups that reveal the intricate texture of its scales and its sharp gaze, as well as wider shots showing it as part of the tropical landscape. Its presence highlights Costa Rica’s incredible biodiversity and the close connection between animal and environment.
With this series, I aim to showcase the elegance and strength of this ancient reptile – a creature that has roamed the forests of Central and South America for millions of years, almost unchanged. The green iguana is a living symbol of resilience, sunlight, and tropical nature.
