I did not want to freeze the dynamics of a gull flying by and breaking waves'by a short exposure time. In order to still work with a long shutter speed without using grey filters, I went out when there was hardly any light. It was mid-November, it had snowed a bit, and there was a strong wind. Everything was in motion; the bird, the water, the sky and the drifting sand. That resulted in this image, which shows movement yet strangely radiates calm. I chose to render the seagull small, to capture the freedom of a bird. This picture was taken on the beach at Castricum aan Zee.
