This photo was taken from the Pferdchen viewpoint at approx. 430 metres above sea level, where there is also a stamp for the Harz hiking pin. It is still early morning and the sun is still hidden behind the mountains. The Pferdchen viewpoint lies high above the southern Harz municipality of Zorge. Here you are in the western part of the Harz Mountains and therefore in the federal state of Lower Saxony. The state-recognised climatic health resort of Zorge is part of the municipality of Walkenried in the Harz Mountains in the district of Göttingen.
The Harz is a low mountain range in Germany and the highest mountain range in northern Germany. It lies at the intersection of Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. The largest part of the Harz lies in Saxony-Anhalt, the western part of the Harz belongs to Lower Saxony and a small part of the Harz lies in Thuringia, in the district of Nordhausen.
At 1142 metres above sea level, the Brocken is the highest mountain in the Harz, in Saxony-Anhalt and in the whole of northern Germany. It is located in the Schierke district of the town of Wernigerode in the Harz district of Saxony-Anhalt.
I hope you enjoy looking at the photo!
