Headstrong Sheep in the Yorkshire Dales

by View2Art

Two headstrong Swaledale sheep stand in the landscape of the Yorkshire Dales, England. They have stopped walking and are both standing there, looking straight at me, whilst calmly munching away, of course. With their dark heads and striking appearance, it almost seems as though they are wondering what on earth I’m doing there, disturbing them.

It is precisely that unexpected moment that makes this image so special: not a posed wildlife photograph, but a spontaneous encounter with two curious and rather headstrong sheep. Their shaggy coats, dark heads and the quintessentially English landscape reinforce the rural atmosphere of Yorkshire and the Yorkshire Dales.

I have edited the original photograph in Photoshop to create a digital oil painting, using a loose, impressionistic style. I drew inspiration from the paintings of Pierre-Auguste Renoir and, in particular, from the warm, lively atmosphere of his tea-drinking scenes. The result is a fusion of photography, digital art and painting.

A playful and characterful work of art for lovers of sheep, animals, nature, the English countryside and Impressionist art — with a generous dash of British quirkiness.
