About ‘Hidden corners of Brussels’ by Geert Van Baelen

Beneath Brussels’ modern skyline lies a world that often goes unnoticed. Whilst the city above us buzzes with life, hustle and bustle, and light, down here there is an almost cinematic silence. This hidden passageway, covered in colourful graffiti and weathered walls, tells stories without words. Every layer of paint, every shadow and every mark bears traces of people who passed through here, lingered or simply wanted to leave a trace of themselves in the anonymity of the city.

The contrast between dark and light is what makes this place so special. At the end of the tunnel, daylight breaks through like an invitation to the outside world, whilst the rough concrete surroundings retain a raw, mysterious atmosphere. It is a place where art and decay meet, where creativity emerges between cold walls and forgotten corners.

This photo shows not only a street scene in Brussels, but also the soul of the city: unpredictable, intense and full of hidden beauty. Sometimes the most impressive stories are not found in the tourist squares, but rather in the shadows beneath them.
