About "High Key Medusa: Elegance and Mystery with White Roses and Snakes"

by Elianne van Turennout

About the artwork

In this high key interpretation of Medusa, a woman with a striking hairdo covered in white roses, mimicking a sophisticated, 18th-century wig, shines. The white roses, often associated with death, create an aura of timeless elegance. Four snakes emerge from these roses, their bodies subtly intertwined between the petals. They are part of the delicate and complex composition, enhancing the woman's mysterious aura without disturbing the harmony.

The woman wears white eyebrows and eyelashes, which give her appearance a ghostly, ethereal beauty. This hints at witchcraft, where, as in witch burnings, the victim is made the very monster. Medusa was held responsible for being raped. She should just not feel as powerful as the gods, but who is the mortal to refuse a God?

On the contrary, it turned out that she ran to Athena for protection, and although the snakes are technically protection, it is remarkable how Athena does not punish her enemy in the story. Somehow, she does not get angry at the God who abused his power when Poseidon was already her enemy. The only virgin in the family of gods punished her human sister for her enemy's actions and literally turned her into a monster. The high key lighting envelops the scene with a bright, soft glow that blurs the sharp contrasts, creating a dreamlike atmosphere that gives the entire composition a serene feel.

Perfect for lovers of mythological art and high key photography, this image is an ideal addition to art collections, galleries or as a striking decorative piece in a home environment. The combination of elegant roses, snakes and the historical references creates an image that is both enchanting and profound, inviting reflection and admiration.
