The Scottish Highlander is perhaps the best-known appearance in Dutch nature. This reddish-brown cattle breed is extremely self-reliant and amiable and is therefore used in many nature reserves in the Netherlands.

The Scottish Highlander was the only old primitive breed that managed to survive in the rugged Highlands of Scotland. This created perfect characteristics for independent survival in the wild, such as having a good winter coat and being sexually mature at a later age. Due to its quiet character, the breed is perfectly suited for grazing in busier urban nature areas.
