A little above the center of the picture we see a hippopotamus. Only the ears and eyes and a bit of the head are sticking out above the water, the rest is underwater. He is looking straight at us, making the photo symmetrical.
The water has very light waves and is a soft pink color due to the sunset. The hippo is gray with a somewhat purple glow.
A small reflection of the hippo can be seen in the water. But because the water is moving, it is not sharp.
The photo was taken in Timbavati in the Greater Kruger in South Africa during one of my safari trips. When I see the photo I always hear in my head the funny sound of a hippo, which sounds like the deep laughter of a man with a heavy voice.
