When visiting Bergen in Norway, be sure to stroll through the Bryggen district. This is where Bergen's history and timber construction comes alive.
Right by Bergen's harbour, you'll find a beautiful row of colourful, historic wooden warehouses that today serve as restaurants. Just behind that, you'll find some more small streets with many beautiful wooden buildings built according to centuries-old tradition.
Bryggen is Bergen's old wharf. Unfortunately, many of the old houses have been destroyed by fires but 62 buildings can still be admired. The entire district is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
