The holy ibis (Threskiornis aethiopicus) is a kind of ibis. In ancient Egypt this animal was worshipped as a symbol of the god Thoth. It is from this use that this species owes its name. Other trivial names are: hippo heron, hippo bird.
The bird is 65 to 89 cm long, weighs an average of 1530 g and has a wingspan of 112 to 124 cm.[3] It is a predominantly white bird with the exception of a black neck, black legs, a bald, black head and black wingtips. Both sexes look the same, but the young animals are not bright white ("dirty white").
