Hong Kong, a city that never stands still. For this shot, I chose a high vantage point overlooking the harbour, skyscrapers and the winding highways of the city centre. It was the blue hour: the moment when day turns to night and the city slowly fills with light.
I used a slow shutter speed to capture the light trails of traffic. The lines of the highways form a kind of visual dance between the buildings, while the skyline is bathed in a mix of cool and warm light. The combination of architecture, movement and reflection makes this a typical Hong Kong image: energetic, complex yet harmonious.
Technically, this was a challenging shoot. Working with a full-frame camera and a sturdy tripod, I had to deal with vibrations, light pollution and rapidly changing light. But that is precisely what makes it exciting, the search for balance between technique and feeling.
At home behind my screen, I work out the image further. I carefully adjust contrast, colour and sharpness to preserve the atmosphere of the moment. As a viewer, I want you to feel the city: the speed, the structure, the intensity.
A work that, for me, captures the essence of Hong Kong. A city that lives, breathes and never sleeps.
