About ‘Iran: Nasir al Molkmoskee (Shiraz)’ by Maarten Verhees

The Nasir al Molkmosque is a mosque in the Iranian city of Shiraz, located near Goade-e-Araban Square and near the famous mausoleum Shah Cheragh, the Vakilmosque and the Vakilbazaar. The mosque was built between 1876 and 1888 by order of the Gothic leader Mirza Hasan Ali Nasir al Molk. The designers were Mohammed Hasan-e-Memar and Mohammed Reza Kashi Paz-e-Shirazi. Nowadays the mosque is managed by the eponymous Nasir al Molk Foundation. The facade of the mosque contains a lot of colored glass and other traditional elements, such as panj kāseh-i (five concaven). The mosque is best known for the beautiful reflections the coloured glass gives on the floor when the sun shines on it.
