Building on symmetry and portraits, I wanted to create something where circles are an essential part of the work. It now looks like there is a hole in the work through which the person is looking. It is also a bit reminiscent of the life-size paintings or photographs you see at amusement parks, to see yourself in a costume and thus easily becoming another person. Related to this and what is now very much in play in our Western society is finding your own identity and coming out for it. While drawing and deforming the circles, I spontaneously created a metal effect. I continued this metal effect in the other 2 portraits I made in this series of 3.
