The Grand Prismatic Spring is a hot springin Yellowstone. This spring has a constant temperature of about 70°C. An average of 2,000 litres of water per minute is released from the spring.
Because the water is extremely pure, it has a deep blue colour. The orange colour on the sides is caused by bacteria living in the microbial mats along the edges of the spring, where the water has cooled sufficiently.
