About ‘Jackie’ by Jeroen Quirijns

Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy Onassis, First Lady of the United States from 1961 until the death of her husband, President John F. Kennedy, in 1963. Following the death of her husband John, she married Onassis in 1968.
Wherever she went, she was in the spotlight – often unwittingly; the paparazzi revelled in it, as did the American public – and she was an excellent PR asset for her husband.
With the ‘ "twee-in-een" ’ theme, I am showcasing these two famous women: Jackie Kennedy and Jackie Onassis.
With her first husband, the President of the United States, she was constantly in the spotlight; with her second husband, Onassis, she remained in the background – deliberately so. Placing her against a dark background makes her stand out more; the carafe and glasses create a suitable distance, and the setting is ‘ "April in Paris" ’ – the iconic photograph by Slim Aarons.
The colours yellow, blue and green lend the painting a sense of calm; the gentlemen in tailcoats in the background provide a frame around her and have been deliberately left unrecognisable so that the focus remains on the foreground.
