The Jaguar E-Type was born out of the need of Britain to create a car that could compete in the highly competitive world of the 1960's. At first, the United Kingdom, alone, had any intention of standing up and creating a car for the masses that would be able to compete with the American and European cars of the time. One plan that the British government had been to develop a sporty, stylish, and powerful car. This car was to be a Jaguar E-Type and it was born.

The Jaguar E-Type was first developed in a small office in Coventry by a car engineer who happened to be one of the few people from his engineering college that actually owned a Jaguar. The Jaguar E-Type actually had its roots in a project undertaken by Jaguar Production, which was meant to produce a sporty and practical car. The project was hit by many snags and it was this that led the young engineer to devise his idea for the Jaguar E-Type. He had also been involved in the development of many Jaguar automobiles throughout his time at the helm of the automaker.

The Jaguar E-Type's development was fraught with numerous roadblocks along the way. Although the car set a number of standards that were to be surpassed in future cars, its styling was decidedly retro. Although this first model was not the hit it would become, Jaguar did create a second series that was a huge success.
