The Boeing AH-64 Apache attack helicopter was originally designed for taking out tanks and other (armoured) ground targets. In practice, thanks to its broad weapons package and advanced (observation) equipment, the aircraft is very widely deployable.
The Royal Air Force uses the aircraft for various tasks such as:
acting as an armed scout, protecting ground troops and transport helicopters; disabling (armoured) ground targets, such as tanks, command and radar posts and artillery positions, escorting convoys and guarding and shielding areas.
