About ‘Kittiwake colony’ by Jorrit Verkleij
Black-headed gulls breed in colonies. On rocky cliffs and buildings, it is striking how the breeding pairs make use of any suitable nesting spot. This frame depicts symmetry on several levels: eight birds on four nests in two window frames, occupying half the frame. The snow-covered roof adds to the sense of minimalism.
