It was once a proud powerhouse, pulling cattle wagons and goods trains through the hot heart of Australia - today it rusts leisurely in the dust of Marree: a disused locomotive that seems to have more stories to tell than you might think at first glance. This impressive picture shows not just a technical relic, but a real piece of outback history.
Marree, once an important railway junction on the legendary Ghan line, has been transformed over the years into a huge open-air museum. Here she stands now, with the words "KEEP OUT - FOR SALE" on her nose, as if she still has a message for those who stray to her. Its rusty patina, the bursting colour and the bright red in contrast to the endless expanse - all this tells of the transience of progress, of the passage of time and the magic of standing still.
This photograph is a monument made of steel and dust. It awakens longing in railway nostalgics, fascinates fans of industrial aesthetics - and casts a spell over all those who have succumbed to the charm of bygone eras.
I have brought back many photo impressions from my travels. So that you can also enjoy the impressive pictures, I offer selected photos here that can be printed on canvas, as posters, on acrylic glass and even more media. For more travel inspiration, visit my website.. Read more…
