The bay trees of Fanal, are perhaps the most famous site on the island of Madeira. Located high in the mountains, this unique area is part of the Unesco World Heritage. This forest is over 600 years old and consists entirely of stately laurel trees, which create a magical atmosphere in the mist.
For this image, I had chosen one graceful tree just before the fog entered the area. As a result, the foreground is still beautifully green and the background completely shrouded in fog. The silhouette of the tree is very visible this way. The moss and ferns on the trunk are a nice detail, which you see on many trees here in the cloud forest.
A few moments later, this tree had completely disappeared in the fog and I had to look for another location!!!
It is a beautiful image with calm colour tones, in browns and greens. Despite the fog, all the details in the tree are clearly visible.
