It was a deeply moving experience to watch this wild leopard feeding - powerful, focussed, completely in the moment. Shortly afterwards, he lay down on the warm, red sand of the Namibian savannah, full and relaxed. This scene was one of the most emotional highlights of my trip to Namibia. The photo was taken in Okonjima, a private nature reserve dedicated to the protection of African big cats such as leopards.
The photo not only shows an impressive animal portrait, but also tells of the tranquillity after the struggle for survival, of the balance between wildness and silence. The colour contrasts - the bright ochre of the earth, the lush green of the vegetation and the characteristic fur pattern of the leopard - underline the special atmosphere of this moment.
This picture symbolises the deep respect for life in its natural form and the magic of real animal observations in the wild. A memory full of reverence, gratitude - and beauty.
