About ‘Lights of Matera’ by Steve Henderson

Matera, Italy, is said to be the third oldest, continuously lived in city of the world, with human habitation going back 12,000 years. Due to its ancient buildings and cave dwellings, it has been the site for many biblically based movies, including Mel Gibson's 2004 Passion of the Christ and Pier Paolo Pasolini’s 1964 Gospel According to Saint Matthew.

Some have nicknamed the city the "second Bethlehem," and have described it as looking more like Jerusalem than Jerusalem itself.

The artwork, Lights of Matera, invites the viewer to take a stroll up to the outskirts of the historical city, and at twilight, to watch one by one as the lights of the town turn on, casting a warm golden glow over the whitewashed buildings and stonework.

And while there is electricity now, something that the city has not enjoyed for most of its long history, the timelessness of its essence remains, captivating both visitor and resident.

What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
