About ‘Living in the void’ by Zeno Swijtink

Under the blazing sun of the Naukluft Park stands a tree that has left its green years far behind. Its branches are barren and brittle, as if they might disintegrate into dust at any moment. All around him is a sea of orange dunes, undulating and endless, a landscape that simultaneously shines and frightens in its emptiness.

The sky is blue and the sand whispers softly when the wind brushes over it, but otherwise silence reigns. A silence that weighs heavily on you, but also feels pure, as if this piece of earth has never been touched by time.

The tree seems lonely, but it stands there like a beacon. It reminds you that even in the most desolate conditions, something can persist.
If you stop and look here, you see more than a dead tree. You see constancy, impermanence and beauty bound together in one image. A moment in which the desert teaches you that silence can also be a story.
