The long-horned trunk fish (Lactoria cornuta) is a ray-finned fish from the family of trunk fish (Ostraciidae). .
This up to 46 cm long fish has a hard outer skeleton, which consists of fused bony scales. It has a horn-shaped protuberance above each eye and two long thorns on either side of the anal fin. The dorsal fin is far back, just in front of the root of the tail. The body is yellow with light blue spots. The tail is bluish and largely transparent.
The food consists of invertebrates, which they swirl out of the sand with targeted jets of water.
The fish is found in the Pacific and Indian Oceans and the Red Sea to a depth of 100 m, usually not deeper than 50 m. The fish is a coastal dweller, and occurs in salt to brackish water above muddy and sandy bottoms near rocks and reefs. Also in harbours and estuaries.
