About ‘Mafraq: Quseir Amra’ by Maarten Verhees

Quseir Amra or Qusair Amra is a historic bathhouse that was part of a hunting lodge. Quseir Amra belongs to the so-called 'desert castles' built by the Umayyad dynasty to the east and south of Amman. The building probably dates from the period 711 - 715 and was built by order of Caliph Walid I. The paintings are possibly of a later date and were then added between 730 and 740.The building is built of blocks of sandstone. It is currently located in the middle of the desert near a wadi, a riverbed that is dry for most of the year. In the eighth century, the area was probably green and fertile. A well - still present today - was used to draw the water for the baths.The hamam consists of several rooms. One enters the large reception hall covered by three parallel barrel vaults. In the centre is a niche where the royal throne probably stood. Furthermore, there are two rest rooms. On the left, one can walk to the apodyterium (the dressing room) behind which are the tepidarium (the lukewarm bath) and the caldarium (the hot bath).The bathhouse is unique for its 250 well-preserved frescoes, many of which are still vividly coloured. These frescoes decorate the interior walls of the building and especially those of the reception hall. At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
