As the days shorten and temperatures drop, the red deer rut begins in late August. Some males get lucky and find a group of females and manage to successfully defend them too. This male is alone on the moors in the fog. He is completely alone and has no females left. The sun tries to lift the fog, but even that fails. Yet this powerful male is not giving up hope, because the fog will surely clear again. The rut is not over yet. For me, this image conveys something of loneliness and stillness, yet also hope and strength.
