From its source area near Dedemsvaart, the Reest flows to Meppel. The small river forms the border between Drenthe and Overijssel. It is a true lowland stream. The Reest valley is a narrow stream valley.
This photo shows the meandering of the stream. The photo was taken from the beautiful wooden watchtower that will be built in IJhorst in 2023.
During its construction, I was allowed to take a peek at the top of the tower and was thus able to take this photo.
What stands out are the vastness and pristine nature of the area. The clouds play with the landscape and cause the light to change all the time. First the kingcups and later the buttercups give a bright yellow colour to the fields in spring. This goes well with blue cloudy skies. In this photo, it is the buttercups that provide the colour.
This makes the Reest valley in spring a fresh, colourful and calming addition to the wall of your home or office.
A square crop with the meandering river is also quite possible.
