The maritime motif was taken on 01 January 2025 in the late evening hours with the NIKON D800 (lens: NIKKOR 24.0-70.0 mm f/2.8).

The meditative power of the sea is based on a combination of acoustic, visual and physiological effects that reduce stress, improve mood and contribute to relaxation. Studies have shown that being close to water has a positive effect on mental health.
The steady, rhythmic sound of the waves has a calming effect on the autonomic nervous system. These natural, even frequencies, often referred to as "pink noise", help to mask disturbing ambient noise and put the brain in a relaxed state that is beneficial to the parasympathetic nervous system (responsible for regeneration).
Visual calm: The expansive view across the sea to the horizon and the colour blue are associated with calm and serenity. Just a few minutes spent gazing at the water can lower blood pressure and calm breathing.
"Blue space": Environmental psychologists speak of "blue health". The marine environment offers a "place of calm and contemplation" and allows people to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. People who live near the coast often report a greater general sense of well-being.
Physiological and physical effects
Improved breathing: The salty, humid sea air has a positive effect on the respiratory tract. It clears the lungs and can alleviate symptoms of asthma or allergies, which increases general well-being.
Thalassotherapy: The healing effects of seawater (thalassotherapy) have been recognised for centuries. The pressure of the water while swimming exercises the heart and circulation, and simply floating in the water can alleviate anxiety.
The combination of these factors creates an environment that makes it easier for the mind to switch off, relieve stress and recharge its batteries, creating the meditative effect of the sea.
