About the artwork

The Australian Zoo is one of the most famous zoos in the world and a major tourist attraction in Australia. Founded in 1970 by Bob and Lyn Irwin and run by their son Steve Irwin and his wife Terri since 1992, the Australian Zoo is best known for its commitment to the protection and conservation of Australian wildlife. The zoo has a large number of animals, including crocodiles, koalas, kangaroos, wombats, snakes and various species of birds and reptiles. One of the most famous residents of the Australian Zoo was Steve Irwin himself, who was known as "The Crocodile Hunter". Steve was a legendary conservationist who dedicated his life to understanding, protecting and promoting Australian wildlife. He was best known for his work with crocodiles and his adventurous and passionate personality. After Steve's tragic death in 2006, his wife Terri and their children Bindi and Robert continued his work. The Australian Zoo has since grown and has several projects and programmes aimed at protecting wildlife and their habitats. The zoo also has its own wildlife sanctuary, where endangered species are protected and restored. The Australian Zoo not only offers the opportunity to see wild animals up close, but also to learn more about their behaviour, biology and habitat. There are several educational displays and information boards scattered around the zoo, as well as daily presentations where keepers teach visitors more about the animals and their habitats.
