This idyllic photo of the picturesque chapel Try-au-Chêne in Genappe creates the illusion of a picturesque sunrise or enchanting sunset. Nothing could be further from the truth.
The moment the picture was taken concerned the magical hour of midnight, accompanied by the glow of a full moon. An exposure time of 30 seconds reveals the soft pastel tones that adorn the evening sky, while the little chapel and lone tree are captured with precision.
How was this achieved? My creative approach included the strategic use of a torch, which briefly illuminated the scene during that half-minute. This technique reveals the refined details that would otherwise remain hidden, allowing the little chapel and the tree to rise out of the darkness and show their characteristic contours. The result is a harmonious interplay of light and shadow, a testament to the magic that photography can create.
