About ‘Mother and child in the metropolis’ by Geert Van Baelen

In this work, I captured a moment I photographed while walking through Paris. The scene shows an intimate, everyday scene: a person wearing a hat carrying a child as they cross a street together. The urban background fades softly, giving full attention to the tenderness of the gesture.

Although the painting looks like a traditional oil on canvas, it was created entirely digitally. Using modern techniques, I transformed the original picture into a realistic painting style, adding new depth to light, colour and texture. This created a fusion of photography and painting - a digital homage to human proximity in the hustle and bustle of the city.
