The Routeburn Track is 1 of the 10 "Great Walks" of New Zealand. These hikes are known for taking you past some of the most spectacular views in all of New Zealand.
The Routeburn Track is a multi-day trek through Mount Aspering national park to the Milford Sound. During this trip you will sleep in mountain huts along the way. The total trip takes about 4 days and during this time you walk right through the beautiful Mount Aspering N.P. When we were there most of the route was closed due to flooding. We therefore walked the first part of the route as a day trip. From the town of Glenorchy we walked to Routeburn Falls in about 3 hours. The first part of the route is fairly flat through the forest then you climb for quite some time until you reach the falls. This is where most hikers have their first overnight stay. Here you also have a great view of the valley below where you came to walk from. We walked for about an hour further into a beautiful valley (the valley you see here on the photo) to eventually take the same route back to our camper. For us unfortunately no multi-day trip but this day hike still gives you a nice picture of this area.
