About ‘Mỹ Tho: Vĩnh Tràng tempel’ by Maarten Verhees

Vĩnh Tràng Chùa is een boeddhistische tempel nabij Mỹ Tho in de Mekong Delta regio in het zuiden van Vietnam. Het is een van de bekendste tempels in de regio. De tempel staat op een blok van 2 hectare met fruitbomen in het dorp Mỹ Hóa in de stad Mỹ Phong, aan de oevers van het Bảo Định-kanaal. In het midden van de 19e eeuw ontstond de tempel door de inspanningen van de districtschef Bùi Công Đạt, die de erectie organiseerde. Hij rekruteerde de monnik Thích Từ Lâm van de Bửu Lâm-tempel om Vĩnh Tràng te presideren. Na de dood van Bùi Công Đạt heeft Thích Huệ Đăng de rest van de bouwfase voorgezeten en de tempel in 1850 voltooid.
