Nicole Holz is a true storyteller. She creates dense and colourful compositions with a strong narrative power, whereby her stagings merge poetry and photography into an enchanting work of art.
The North Sea Paradise as a surrealistic landscape collage reflects the vast land characterised by moor, geest and marsh as well as the immediate proximity to the North Sea and the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site.
In her spatially and thematically reinvented scenes, the strikingly real becomes tangible through the arrangement of motif elements in an almost three-dimensional manner in a precise abstraction. Her elements of photographs and illustrations sketch serene, pulsating landscapes free of any human presence.
Countless motifs were captured by Nicole Holz at the locations of the Nordic coast and translated into a fresh, lively visual language. A visual language that initially seems to lose its original order in its assigned meaning - only to be transformed at second glance into a dreamlike unity and reinterpreted within it.
Her composed backdrops thus resemble paintings reminiscent of surrealist works - one clings to her pictures as one would to daydreams from childhood, to the boundaries of reality.
