Long, long ago when I was a very small boy, I once had a nightmare. I often have nightmares, but this one was really intense. A wasp was flying above my bed - I can't remember if it was small or big, but it was so emphatic that I haven't forgotten this in over 20 years.
At the back, you can see the door ajar, where my mother came running to my screams and to rid me of this stinging insect. However, she was too late, I had already been stung in my dream. When I set up a plan many years later to use my dreams as source material for my paintings, this was one of the first and most prominent results. The original was made with watercolours on watercolour paper.
