Nijenrode Castle, located on the Vecht in Breukelen, is home to the oldest private university in the Netherlands. Its education is focused on the (international) business community. Nyenrode was founded in 1946 under the name Dutch Training Institute for Foreign Affairs (NOIB). In the program, particular attention was paid to such matters as the preparation of papers, business cases and active language skills. There was an active exchange programme with universities in Germany, France, England and the United States. In 1970, Nijenrode was the scene of the first action of the feminist activist group Dolle Mina, because until then the institute had not admitted any women. Nijenrode was granted university status in 1982. The castle is a National Monument.
