The ventilation building on the north bank of the River Maas with the Euromast behind it are two architectural marvels of mid-20th-century Rotterdam. The 1942 Maastunnel with its low building containing the entrance for cyclists and pedestrians with its 43-metre-long wooden escalators were the longest escalators in the Netherlands until 2017. Unfortunately, that honour now belongs to Amsterdam's Vijzelsgracht metro station. And the 1958 Euromast, with its height of 185 metres, is a very recognisable building in Rotterdam's skyline.
