The Martinez Building or Martinez Towers is an office complex on Mandelaplein in Almere, near Almere Centrum train station. Part of the ground floor houses a branch of Loetje, part of the famous chain of restaurants known for its steaks. The building was photographed close up from below, creating a fascinating interplay of lines. Conversion to black and white makes it almost an abstract image. The blue sky was transformed to black. The afternoon sun created harsh contrasts that were further emphasised in post-processing. The wavy curtains break the abstraction and betray that this is a photograph. Because both towers are at a 90-degree angle to each other, there is a reflection of the light tower in the windows of the other. The reflection makes the lines of the left tower appear to merge into the windows of the right one.
