Old stuff is often fascinating and an inspiration for taking pictures.
Old things have a story and traces of use. Those traces of use make an old item unique.
It is not for nothing that vintage or retro objects have an appeal to many people.
So does this kitchen utensil. They are two old skimmers. They are almost identical, yet each one is slightly different. A different design, originating perhaps from a different factory. And one has more signs of use than the other. But both are made of metal that is enamelled. One with a blue handle and the other with a green one. These vintage skimmers belong to a set that also includes a soup ladle and a sauce ladle. Together, these kitchen utensils hang from a rack called a spoon rack. This type of kitchen utensil was used in many households in the 20th century.
The photo of the skimmers is digitally combined with a photo of an object found in the garden. This object has a beautiful regular pattern.
Furthermore, I converted the photo into retro shades to emphasise the vintage character of these two objects. These are bright colours that were also common in interior design in the 20th century: blue, orange, green and red.
So are you a fan of retro and vintage? Then get this special artwork into your home and give it a nice spot in your kitchen, for example!
I see making art as a creative process.
The starting point of this process for me is always a photo or a painting of my own. Every work of art on this site is therefore based on a self-made photo or painting.
I find my sources of inspiration in everything around me...
