This picture shows a still life. A vase with two orchid branches.
The picture is completely painted with acrylic paint. It tends a little towards an abstract depiction of the vase with the orchid branches, so that the viewer can imagine where the vase is standing. The background of the orchid branches is light in colour so that they stand out well. The colour purple-wine red has been applied to the edge to give the vase with the branches a rounded overall appearance and to place them in the foreground.
The strokes of the purple-coloured palette knife under the vase alone suggest a background. Furthermore, dripping colour in purple can be seen from the light background, which appears to be flowing onto the background. This dripping liquid represents the water that is essential for the orchid branches in the vase and without this water the branches and, above all, the flowers would not be able to stand in such splendour.
