About ‘Origin of the earth #4’ by Margot van den Berg

A layered rock structure just above the sea on the coast of Rabbit Island, Turkey in shades of orange, white and grey.

Sedimentary rock was formed in the sea by depositing sediment on an underlayer. Small pieces of clay, gravel, stone and loam float in the water. Just until they settle somewhere and stay there. The stone shows that this happened over periods of time. The precipitated sediment hardens into stone and at some point new precipitation comes and forms another layer.

The colour of a layer is determined by the type of clay, stone or other material that predominates in the layer. The rust-coloured layers contain a lot of iron which is oxidised, giving it the colour of rust.

The material gradually becomes dry as the earth rises. For example, during an earthquake. This also creates the cracks in the stone.

I saw the stone as we sailed along the coast and fell for the irregular pattern, the rough layers and the visible formation of the earth.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
