A face from the past.
Years ago, I bought a plaster sculpture of the death mask of Tutankhamun, a pharaoh in ancient Egypt, at a flea market. When he died, his body was mummified and placed in a sarcophagus with a golden mask on his face. He was buried in a pyramid in the Valley of the Kings.
The history of ancient Egypt has always fascinated me. That's why I couldn't resist the plaster statue of Tutankhamun at the time. However, there was one thing I didn't love about it: it was white.
Using photos of the real mask, I painted the white plaster statue in the colours of the original: yellow-gold, blue and red-brown. I took a photo of this painted sculpture.
I incorporated this photo into this painting. The colours of Tutankhamun's death mask recur in this colourful painting. The triangles on the right symbolise the pyramids of Egypt. The round shapes on the bottom left symbolise the circle of life.
A modern and colourful work of art, combining photography with painting in a special way!
I see making art as a creative process.
The starting point of this process for me is always a photo or a painting of my own. Every work of art on this site is therefore based on a self-made photo or painting.
I find my sources of inspiration in everything around me...
