About ‘Palendorp by night.’ by Leonie Photography

"Mysteryus Palendorp by night"

The village of Petten has existed since 1300 under the name Petten bi der Sipe.
During a storm in 1625, hundreds of houses were destroyed.
In 1792, the entire village of Petten disappeared into the sea. And from the 18th century onwards, the village was gradually relocated.

On Petten's current beach now stands a work of art and monument "Palendorp" symbolising the old village. Consisting of 160 poles of varying lengths that collectively form the silhouette of 10 houses and a church. At high tide, the poles are partially submerged.
As the sand will slowly calve away over the next few years, the poles will get further and further into the water.

On a cold winter night, I decided to drive from Utrecht to Petten with my photo buddies, hoping we could photograph Palendorp under the dancing aurora colours.
Unfortunately, the aurora did not break out that night so we decided to capture Palendorp under a beautiful starry sky. With the red lights of the windmills in the North Sea on the horizon. And the light clouds that made the night increasingly mysterious.
Despite no Northern Lights appearing, I thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful icy night on the beach of Petten. Satisfied, rosy and tired, we returned home and I became even happier seeing this photo the next day!
Thus, this beautiful cold night on the beach became a precious memory!

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
