This penguin colony lives on an island in the Beagle Channel in southern Argentina. Today they are enjoying a rare spring day. In the background, you can see the snow-capped peaks of Tierra del Fuego's mountains.
The image consists of several horizontal layers: at the bottom the water, then the beach with the Magellanic penguins, the rising dune, dune vegetation and then back-to-back mountains. This layering gives depth to the picture.
The colours of the landscape consist of earthy tones, ochre, dark green and warm grey, framed between the blue of the water and sky. This restrained and limited colour scheme allows the work to fit into any interior.
