About the artwork

Photographed the Sleipnir in the evening.

The Sleipnir is a semi-submersible crane vessel from Heerema Marine Contractors that was delivered in 2019 by Sembcorp in Singapore. The name is derived from the eight-legged horse Sleipnir from Nordic mythology. The design consists of two parallel pontoons, each with four columns containing the working deck.

The Sleipnir has two cranes from Huisman Equipment, each with a lifting capacity of 10,000 tons and a total lifting capacity of 18,000 tons, making it the largest crane ship in the world. For a long time this title was reserved for the sister ship the Thialf.

The Sleipnir is equipped with a dynamic positioning system with eight rudder propellers of 5.5 MW each. In addition, it has an anchor system with twelve anchor winches. Twelve generators of 8 MW provide the ship with power and these run on both Marine Gas Oil and Liquid Natural Gas.

This photo was taken on October 20, 2020.

Due to the long shutter speed of 13 seconds, the crane on the right is out of focus because it was being used for hoisting operations. I intentionally captured the blur created by the movement for this photo.
